Lazarus
LAZARUS WAS MY BOAT.
It took me and 4 friends around the world between 1992 and 1995.
5 of us purchased a boat that had been generally neglected – and then badly damaged in a hurricane that pushed through Massachusetts in August of 1991. I walked down to the ocean and watched the boats crash on the rocks along the shoreline. A few months later, Bill Fallon, Tim Sperry, Matt Sperry, Chris Smith and I would buy one of these broken boats, spend a year rebuilding her, and then embark on an almost 3 year journey around this earth. The images here are some of the precious few that survive from that pre-digital journey. I didn’t actually own a camera, nor did I consider the visual documentation of the trip a particularly important element of my experience at that time. We were just living. We lived, ate, sailed, slept, cooked, and worked on that boat.
The story is too long to tell, but the photos are an opportunity to break it down into small anecdotal moments. I will add stories to the photo pages over time.
